Chappell is a tribute to Warren Chappell (1904-1991), who was an American type designer, illustrator and author. His best-known typefaces include Lydian and Trajanus. In 1955 he designed a typeface that was cut by Gustave Eichenauer but never released. Although Chappell is not a true revival of that original type, it is inspired by it, and, at least in part, based on proofs of the original — some of the only existing materials relating to the face.
Chappell will be a family of OpenType fonts with coverage of all Latin character sets and a range of ligatures, alternates and swash glyphs.
Work continues on Chappell.
Expecting to release Chappell by the end of 2017.
